The London Canal Museum tells the story of London’s canals from the days when they were a vital part of the city’s industrial and commercial life through years of decline and abandonment to today’s more leisurely pursuits.

During your London sightseeing visit you can see inside a narrow boat cabin, learn about the people who lived and worked on the waterways and the horses that pulled their boats. This is the only London museum of inland waterways and one of the best canal museums in the UK.

Located in London’s King’s Cross area, the building that houses this intriguing London museum was itself an ice-warehouse built for Carlo Gatti, the famous ice cream maker, in 1862, where canal boats would deliver their cargoes of ice to be distributed throughout Victorian London.

Look out for the museum’s Tunnel Trips where you can travel by boat through Islington Tunnel on to Regent’s Canal – and if you enjoy the London Canal Museum why not try a longer narrow boat trip and explore Regent’s Canal with Jason’s Original Canal Boat Trip - another free London attraction to pass holders.

It’s also one of several specialist London museums offering free entry with London Pass.
