Visit this Georgian villa and admire around 700 medieval and Renaissance masterpieces collected by Sir Julius Wernher

Built in 1723, Ranger’s House is an elegant redbrick Georgian villa on the edge of Greenwich Park with the Meridian Line passing through its grounds. While the history of the building itself is worth investigation in its own right it is its role as possibly the finest Greenwich art gallery that it is most widely known.

Ranger’s House is home to the Wernher Collection – a magnificent collection of medieval and Renaissance works of art assembled by the diamond magnate Sir Julius Wernher in the late 19th and early 20th century.

The London Wernher collection features nearly 700 works of art including early religious paintings and Dutch Old Masters, minute carved Gothic ivories and Renaissance treasures. Each beautifully crafted object reveals as much about art as it does about Sir Julius’ eclectic tastes, and his place within the collecting world of the nouveaux riches in late 19th century London.

London Pass entitles you to free entry at several other London art galleries; if you’re visiting Greenwich it’s certainly worth planning a trip to the National Maritime Museum Greenwich art gallery to view their astonishing collection of maritime art, while pass holders can also enjoy the special exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery in central London absolutely free. Don’t miss out on these amazing London tourist attractions.
